Elie Wiesel

Elie Wiesel was a survivor of the Holocaust and wrote Night as a memoir to his horrific experiences in concentration camps, Auschwitz and Buchenwald. He had various reasons for telling his story. The first reason was to help prevent history from repeating. The second reason was to to preserve a record of life and death in the eyes of an adolescent who did not yet fully understand the premise of life and death. The third reason was to not go mad. On the contrary it was to go mad to understand madness. Elie Wiesel had many reasons for writing his story of what happened inside concentration camps during the Holocaust.

Assignment 3: Images of Night

Chimneys
Scary and dark
Moaning yelling and crying
Frightening like Mr. Johnson, dark like an abyss
A casket of the living
Screaming
Away from sight, in the concentration camp
